As the frequency of which I reach for a hand knit sweater increases, as does my excitement for the months to come.
I am a winter girl at heart; having grown up in Ottawa I miss the snow and the brisk chill in the air that nips at your fingertips and nose in a way that only hot chocolate will soothe.
Now that I've relocated to the (ahem) wetter west coast of Canada, I find myself continuing to grow excited as the temperatures drop, regardless of the near-absence of snow and the increase in precipitation.
Here are a few things on my cold-weather ritual list: Comfort Foods: Crock pot meals, stews, soups, warm bread straight from the oven.
Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables: It's time for squashes, apples and cinnamon to take the stage! There is nothing more satisfying then the natural transition of the local harvest.
Cozy Down-Time: Summer is a time when Ryan and I are always on the go; fishing, hiking, camping, road-tripping, and training. But when the weather becomes increasingly cold and gray I find it easier to slow things down, spend more time in my pj's and curl up with baked goods and knitting. Bikini body? What's that?
Winter Clothes: Hello handknits!!!
The Holiday Season: I love love love love love Christmas! The crafting, the baking, the family time, the decorations, the music, I could go on and on. Bonus, this year Ryan will be joining me in Ottawa/Montreal for my family traditions! I am so excited to have him included in my favourite celebrations!
Sitting By The Fire: Whether at restaurant, cabin, a friend's house or your own it's nice to get all cuddly by the fire as much as you can when it's chilly outside. The sound of crackling wood and the scent of all the luscious cedar is enough to make a girl fall in love.
Saunas and Hot Tubs: While we don't have the luxury of owning either, both are located within our local recreation centre that is a mere 3km walk away! Ryan and I are firm advocates of the sauna curing head colds if you can catch them early enough, so we tend to spend some serious time chatting away in these hot sticky spaces!
Winter Scents: Cinnamon, apple, spices, pine, cedar... there really aren't any scents more comforting than these!
Winter Hobbies: Hello easy excuses to knit and watch movies all the day long! You may be into cross country skiing or snowboarding, but me? You'll find me by the fire with my knitting.
