Versatile Blogger

Last week I was overjoyed to see that Rebecca at nook. and Melissa at MisoCrafty awarded me with the Versatile Blogger award! For those of you who are not yet familiar with this game, it's a great way to find out more about the bloggey (meeee) and allow me to introduce you to some of my friends/favorite bloggers!

There are only a few rules:
1. Thank the award-giver and link back to them in your post.
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Pass this award along to 15 recently discovered blogs you enjoy reading.
4. Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know about the award.

Basically, the Versatile Blogger award is kind of like the coolest chain letter ever!

7 Things About Me

One: I love knitting (duh). But I actually love the process of knitting, the beautiful colors, the fiber in my hands, the steady rhythm of my needles, more than the finished objects. To prove my point, I have 18 pairs of socks in my cedar chest... I have worn five pairs... maybe three or four times each. This winter it's my goal to wear every single pair of socks I've knit; and more than once!

Two: I hate to shop. Except for groceries. I totally love grocery shopping!!!

Three: I have two degrees, a Bachelor of Music with honors in Music Education and a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature. Both are from my alma mater The University of Western Ontario. Nevertheless, I am in the Navy as a non-commissioned member.

Four: I have osteoperosis, but that really doesn't seem to slow me down at all... which may or may not be a bad thing. I keep hearing horror stories about how If I don't slow down and really take it easy on my body that when I'm old and grey I may not be able to cough without breaking a rib... but really, life is for living, and I'm hoping that I'm slowly reversing my osteoperosis into a stage of oseteopenia through vitamins, careful diet and fitness. I have a bone density scan in December and I am very excited to see how I am doing.

Five: I cook a lot. Ryan and I probably only eat about 2 meals outside of the home a week, not including coffee dates! I really should start sharing more food with you again now that my cooking has become slightly more elaborate (as it always does through the cold months). Beef stews, butternut squash burritos, roast vegetables, spaghetti squash, slow-cooker chicken, turkey sausages, slow-cooker cinnamon maple applesauce... I could go on and on... but that would be rude because I didn't share any of it with you!

Six: I avoid refined sugar. While I have no aversion to the occassional treat, I do not consumer sugar at home. I use honey, agave, maple, stevia, bananas, or even dates to sweeten my foods whenever possible and don't have granulated sugars (or white flours) in my kitchen at home. I will eat a piece of cake or some cookies outside of the house that I know have been made with sugar, but that doesn't happen all that often!

Seven: Despite being a runner and loving it, I still have to force my booty out the door every. single. day. Working out never gets easy, it's all about priorities. I would much rather be sitting on a couch knitting most days, but I know that once I start and my blood starts pumping all my problems will melt away - even if it means just making it "one more minute. okay, now one more minute. another minute." One minute at a time, the time always keeps moving. I have to plan my workouts (runs, swims, bikes) into my day every. single. day. Whether that means stopping at the gym at 7:30pm on the way home from work after a 12 hour shift, or swimming after I teach yoga, before I babysit, on the way to go get groceries for dinner. Priorities. There will always be something else you could be doing. There are no excuses.

You should definitely share more of your food. :D I miss your food blog posts, though pretty much everything you post about is really interesting and inspiring in some way or another. That said, I really like your seventh fact. Between school, work, editing for a magazine and working on art commissions all November I've barely had any time to get to the gym, but I regret not going now, because I feel like even just taking 20 or 30 minutes would have kept my stress in check. :(
